(@Uberboyo : Not a safe bet. Yes there has been back and forth gene flow – and continuously. But both the engine of evolutionary pressure (africa’s horizontal climate shifts) and the presence of competitors (proximity) produced whatever leap that occurred in east africa’s rift valley (the ‘whole package’) – even if, what appears to be the next leap, was due to accessing the then-dry persian gulf. Unfortunately it’s underwater. But none of these papers change the general narrative – they only express that gene flow was continuous both directions even if limited.)
