IMO: It’s painful when young, it makes finding a mate outside of the university difficult, it’s an advantage in work life, and it almost guarantees loneliness when old. Truth is that smart people tend to develop ‘grouchiness’ in old age if they cannot come to terms with the futility of stopping others from repeating mistakes generation after generation. And it’s hard to develop that tolerance.
