Classes are a natural genetic consequence. No castes are necessary in an homogenous polity. In a heterogeneous polity like india the caste system defended the upper classes from outbreeding – which is why it was imposed, but also makes possible an intergenerational military division of responsibility with clear rights obligations and inalienations for members of the cast (rank). This is useful in a large poor, genetically heterogeneous population especially when like in india there is a large disparity in IQ.
