It’s more like moscow was a minor part of kiev’s history. Kiev was the capital of the Rus. Mongols invaded. Because Kiev was not able to regain it’s influence. Moscovy was able to recover and kick out the mongols. And just kept expanding. Ukraine is a ‘borderland’ (which is what it means), and was always under someone else’s military control whether poland, lithuania, austria, or finally russia. They are tired of being someone else’s toy. 😉
