Correct.
If you work with the layer and grid system, draw the pattern out, then use the techniques of Vermeer to use magnification while you scuplt the wood, using tools that look akin to jewellers and watchmaker’s tools, it’s not actually that difficult. Using layers is also forgiving, since a layer can be reconstructed without affecting the other layers. We have had paper artists in the last X decades who do a similar process even if without the magnification.
