Ashekenazi DNA appears primarily to origiate in the levant then men migrated to rome, married local women, and continued inbreeding afterward, then spreading out along trade routes in to broader europe.
There were some serious bottleneces so it may be that more trade routes were followed other than via Rome, but the remaining gene pool appers reasonably consistent in that it’s southern european (anatolian-farmer contribution) that largely remains.
In fact in much of the population the euroepan compoent is slighly larger than the levantine.

So that’s why I included italian genetics. 😉
