But education in WHAT?

Al-Fihiri was the daughter of a wealthy merchant, and her father left her money. She used the money to found a Madras (religious school). Historically, madrasas have been centers for learning Islamic sciences such as jurisprudence (fiqh), theology (kalam), Hadith (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad), Quranic studies, and Arabic language – for post-secondary students.

I can’t rememer which of the two madrasas in Fez was founded as a mosque, then a madrass, then eventually what we would call a college. But it is more accurate to call it a seminary than a college.
