They arent indigenous. They migrated from siberia, and are an admixture of majority east eurasian with a minority of ancestral north eurasians. The first wave was exterminated (almost entirely) by the subsequent waves. As were most of the large mammals.

All we can observe in the genetics is continuation of the siberian gene pool and minor variation in regional noteny until the spanish arrive (mostly male) inbreed with local females, and then repeat the sam with african and carribean slaves.
