It was the kind of thing you took for granted because it was everywhere and because it was local it felt like it was ours — part of us.
It makes more sense when you account for the two other factors: first, the 90s dividend as the collapse of the communists left us with an economic boom and a sense of destiny. Secondly: Seattle already had the highest consumption of books per capita, between Boeing and Microsoft engineers were a majority influence, and Microsoft gave more of its profits to employees than all companies in history combined – feeding the arts, home improvements, new and interesting businesses, startups, and of course the music scene. It was one of the best times to be alive in human history. Like Paris in the twenties.
They killed it from 2010 to present. It’s another liberal shithole now.
