I don’t really want to push back on your moral intution, but the instinct you feel while you consider it moral, is the evastion of responsibilty for the conflict necessary for the preservation of the capital of our civilization – the civilization that gave us the modern world, modern the rule of law nation state, and the sequence of agrarian, commercial, financial, industrial, and scientific revolutions.

We do not understand what we do in the great context of history because we are ignorant petty creatures that presume the present era (presently ending) of perpetual growth (made possible by the british empire and subsequently the american) have created for us a temporary luxury to pursue our follies, and we spend down our capital to suicide as readily as the french, the spanish and the romans before them.
