Native people are in a far better position today for having been colonized (especially by the English) than those that were not – and this is well studied in the literature. IMO the problem was the world wars ended the colonial project before the people were sufficiently self sufficient in modernity. The problem is that until the colonial project was pretty far under way it was not clear that less developed countries could ACHIEVE modernity.
