Edward is proposing a utilitarian solution so that the USA can pivot to China. The fact that it is a rational solution but rewards Russia for aggression is troublesome.

Was gaining Crimea and two provinces worth losing billions in reserves, and restoring, revitilizing and expanding NATO, when RU could have simply purchased them in 2014 because Ukrainians (myself included at the time) would have been happy to divest the country of the sh–hole provinces that were the home of the communists, sedition, and organized crime?

I can’t predict the possibility, but that possibility is non-zero. And the Ukrainians want blood. So even if settled I see a frozen conflict.
