Favorites remain SQL (all dbs really), C++, Python, Php, Javascript. I design most systems with sufficient user customization to require data driven, configurable, or programmatically generated code (“execs”). But that’s because most of the systems I’ve designed interact with different sets of usrs, rather than perform middle or backend processes. I love stringy languages. There just isn’t enough progress toward Clojure yet, which seems the natural direction. ;). On the other hand I think Javascript is a curse and that one of the problems with the browser economy is the high cost of js development testing and deployment nearly outweighing the utility the browser brought to distribution.
