(Food For Thought)
–“One fundamental problem with a purely meritocratic system in a multi-racial society is that some races will become effectively locked out of positions of power.”–

Riffing off Jayman’s usual insight:

In the Western tradition
1) We prohibit authority, and grand only powers of decidability.
(This forces us into markets)

2) So we practice trifunctionalism. With Military(masculine), Religious(feminine), and Law(Neutral) elites where the common (empirical) law (tradition) is the referee.
(This is a market)

3) We practice concurrency(not democracy) in decision making. Meaning consensus among the Regions(nobility) and classes (houses).
(This is a market)

4) To do so we created houses (markets for concurrency between the classes). We had, and should still have, houses for the classes:
… i) Monarchy (judge of last resort) for the territory,
… ii) Nobility(senate) for the region,
… iii) House of Commons (Property owners(really: businesses)), for the producers
… iv) Lower House (Church) for women, dependents.
(These houses constitute a market.)

5) There is no evidence that multicultural and or multi racial societies can survive given the demographic differences in traits, and the resulting demographic differences in wants and needs for norms, traditions, values, and institutions.
… a) this is because, with kin preference alone, and demographic differences more so, there will always either be extraction by the more competitive group to the less – directly or indirectly; or there will be redistribution (extraction) from the more competitive group by the less competitive group – and the value of political unity is never offset by extraction.
… b) So, instead we have had federations of defense and trade because separate states may produce different internal institutions and economies but cooperate extra-politically.
… c) But, It may be possible to create a house or modify a house to try to maintain concurrency between ethinic and racial groups through political rather than just economic trades.
… d) but there is no evidence at all, that this experiment would be preferable in any way over returning to pre-civil-war federation of states, just in the European tradition, and in particular the tradition of the holy roman empire that had not just many small states but free cities with even greater flexibility given their international (sometimes hostile) interests vs the rest of the polity.
