It’s hard to tell. Trust spread eastward from the germanic countries with commerce. Russian ‘nobility’ was so heavily corrupt and abusive of the peasantry that they never developed the ‘commons’ attitudes of Germania. They were only freed from serfdom in 1861. About the same time as American slaves. That said, they were pretty devout Christians. Communities were integral if very poor. And AFAIK it was the soviet union and the pervasive corruption and threat of ‘being reported’ that did the number on them. But throughout the 50’s and 60s when russia was ‘looking good’ it was a quality of life improvement for millions, who felt that change more so than those who were resentful. And today’s Russia has the LOWEST institutional trust in the WORLD.
