Q: “WHAT ABOUT: OUR BRAINS ARE SMALLER THAN OUR DISTANT ANCESTORS?”
Domestication syndrome. Not clear that there is a difference in brain contents neurons or neural density. Appears that aggression and persistence produce larger brains (energy?) while domestication and agency produce smaller brains (energy?).
Given IQ differences appear to be dependent on neoteny, and the ratio of head to body, it’s not clear that there is any difference between our ancestors and us.
But…
Who is smarter, wolf or dog? Dogs.
Why? Neoteny.
We are probably smarter than those ancestors.
