Authoritarians are happy and able to try to write their names in history as a reward for the stress of the minutia of their daily lives, and general failure to achieve ends over their careers, and to export the risk to the people and institutions.

But why is determinism “fragile when applied to political will to alter an extreme?” Because of the inversion of risk-reward at the extremes.
