TWITTER LIMITATIONS ON IDEAS
—“Can you finish your posts on Twitter?”–RD Hyker
Most of my Tweets are automatically posted to twitter from FB. Twitter does not permit long form, and the vast majority of my serious posts are in the 500-1500 character range (250-750 words), with important ones in the 3500-5000 character range. If twitter allowed 4k posts (it should) rather than Tweets I would post full content there instead of just links.
Sort of Journalistic rules of thumb.
– 250 words to sympathize
– 500 to inform
– 750 to make a point by context
– 1500 for an argument within context
– 4500 for an analysis (set of arguments)
– 10000 for a treatment (20 pages)
In general you can say most anything in twenty pages – which is why the book industry and the paper industry exist. You can’t sell a paper but you can sell a book, so books consist of either one paper and a lot of fluff, or multiple papers.
If a worthwhile CONVERSATION begins on twitter I will post a series of responses there, then consolidate them on FB in a single post, which will be auto-posted to twitter yet again.
