The rates of change, accelerating since 1900, faster postwar and more rapidly since the 1980s defeated the perceived value of elders in society economy and politics which caused us to ignore elders in the one thing that mattered: self-full fillment through family, friends, and civic participation. Blame TV and the entertainment sector because it absorbed all that time and energy that we previously devoted to family, friends, and socialization where we developed understanding and compromise with one another. Instead we live in a mental model of an artificial universe created by narrative media, trapped in artificially lit glow of media projectors.
