This artist demonstrates skill at photorealism, which is a technical craft, but does not produce “Art” that captures the period. Painting Art (rather than decoration) requires composition, monumental scale, civilizational narratives, in current aesthetic and cultural context.

Craftsmanship + Design(aesthetics) + Content Approaches but rarely achieves ‘art’.

There is very little difference if any between artistic, scientific, technological, and commercial innovation: you are always trying to innovate. In art, particularly a technology as old and mature as painting, requires you to innovate in content.
