Something unstated: how much those ‘stores’ affected our culture, and how much they created the ‘perception’ of wealth that did not exist. And conversely, how much perception of decline that their closure will create in the populace as we are left looking for common spaces that evolved from parks, to department stores, to malls – to *gone*. An exceptional parable – the twentieth century expressed by retail.
