His specialty is medieval, and in particular middle eastern. He sees religion as a necessary means of mindfulness for the common people. Like many he sees the collapse of mindfulness that product of a collapse of religion. He wants to preserve christianity, and discover a means of religious reform or revolution. He runs experiments on the audience (I know, we discuss it, I do the same thing) to test different positions to see if he can discover a ‘middle path’. It’s very difficult to know what he really thinks because he’s almost always just looking to evolve, and learning constantly along the way.
