The USD will be ‘saved’ if it need be, by the chaos caused by the US withdrawal from the policing of world sovereignty, finance, transport, and trade. The more chaos (war, conflict) in the world the better for the Dollar. The flight to the dollar is almost impossible to change during uncertainty – we have rule of law. By comparison no other country does. So the preservation of the dollar and the re-industrialization of the USA are Trump’s strategic objectives. The USA is all but economically autarkic. Other than the taiwan issue we are all but independent of need for trade.
