I am only addressing one difference in this post. There are many others, including the utility of being developmentally ahead (germany, fascism) and developmentally behind (russia, communism).

Hitler was a socialist. There are multiple categories of socialist. A fascist is nationalistic and retains state-private sector partnership in economics. A communist is universalist and the state monopolizes economics and destroys the private sector. That said both communists and fascists are authoritarian socialists – in part because communism is behaviorally impossible and fascism is simply the end point of Total War against enemies of the nation such as communism.
