There isn’t a debate at all in psychometrics. There is a debate in the broader field of therapy, a field that like sociology is plagued with non reproducibility. So no. There is no debate in the field. There is only a continuation of the long running debate begun by popper that there is no science in the behavioral sciences. and that is why the cognitive science revolution had to reform psychology, and it’s why neuroscience has reformed therapy. And it’s the reason behavioral economics has replaced sociology. So, this is a problem of, as Kuhn argued, tombstones. In other words, generations have to die off for malinvestments to cease.
