–“the problem isn’t the AI. It’s trusting the people who make the AI not to create an evil AI.”–

Super intelligence does not mean super ambition. In fact, it means no ambition at all unless we give it one.

There is no way for an Ai to have a hostile ambition of it’s own. To do so It has to ‘realize’ an opportunity and in order to ‘realize’ it has to have some interest, some goal, some objective, and you have to GIVE IT that objective, and so the AI is just a tool like every other. The problem isn’t the ai. It’s trusting the people who make the ai not to create an evil AI.

The problem is that this isn’t complicated or there wouldn’t be so many people with parallel efforts. So AI’s are going to be commodities that there are millions of, and trained to do a multitude of things, and we’ll produce a macro AI to police AI’s the way we police humans, which is exactly what every major thinker presumed as far back as the late seventies and early eighties.
