Technically speaking I’m a genius by every known measure. And yes poland rebuilt it’s economy. And ukrainians were trying to. And yes there is a vast literature on why Putin was willing to burn the country’s population in order to rebuild the russian empire/soviet union. And tehre is a good reason: the productivity of the soviet union was produced in eastern europe and especially in ukraine. Why? Russian people are a ‘low trust’ polity becuase they have only been out of serfdom for a few years prior to the communist revolution and a few years after the soviet collapse, and have never formed a majority middle class and so never formed majority middle class social and political morals.
