They are the northern adn eastern most european population along the ice sheets, sub-speciating in the region of the Ob river in northern russia. They are the product of MORE ancient north eurasian with some introgression of siberian(east asian), and less a product of steppe herders and anatolian farmers.
Think of the latitude of the earth, then tilted the 22 degrees of earth’s tilt (clockwise) and then that europeans evolved slightly differently from atlantic to the edge of siberia, and from the very northeast in the ob river to the very south west in Spain (North South) given us both horizonatal ‘bands’ that roughly correspond to climate zones, and vertical bands east to west.
