NATIONALIST VS CIVIC NATIONALIST VS ETHNO-NATIONALIST
You’re conflating Nationalist, Civic Nationalist and Ethno-Nationalist – which is a common tendency.
Ergo the distinction between :
1. Nationalist: pursuit of national interests to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.
2. Civic Nationalist: culturally homogenous but ethnically not: anyone who shares the country’s values and adheres to its laws can be a full member of the nation, regardless of their ethnic, racial, or religious background.
3. Ethno-Nationalist: both culturally and ethnically homogenous: defines the nation in terms of ethnicity, asserting that a nation is defined by a shared heritage, which usually includes a common language, culture, and ancestry. Ethnonationalism seeks to promote the interests of a particular ethnic group and often aims for self-determination for that group, which can include autonomy or the creation of a nation-state for that ethnic group alone.
