The rate at which we can learn, and the patterns we can identify increase as our intelligence increases. Among the very brightest the difference is more attributable to working memory than anything else. And of course the verbal-pictoral vs physical-systemic difference emerges clearly as well. So we can understand them rather easily – though ‘far beyond their own’ isn’t necessarily a constraint I share.
