I’m not sure the evidence says that. It has one positive and one negative side effect. It fosters consumption and leisure on one hand, and lengthen’s tolerance for returns on investment on the other. While this is a more psychologically comfortable state of affairs I’m not sure that the psychologically uncomfortable state of affairs isn’t equally if even more so useful. What I suspect is that just as authoritarian government in war and republican government as a going concern, and redistributive government in eras of windfalls might simply be necessities rather than continuous stability.
