It makes perfect sense if the contract between the gas provider and the germans requires billions of payments to the germans for failure to deliver – and it makes even more sense when the government owns the gas provider, and the gas and energy providers pay more than half of all government revenue and GDP. So yes it makes perfect sense. But then, you know, the russian mind is not the western mind. And so it makes much more sense to them than to you (us). It also makes sense if you want to drive the german government into terror because it’s industry can’t perform and its economy can collapse, and you can’t be forced to restart the gas and oil, but instead, want the government and economy to fail. It’s perfectly logical to do this for a non-european.
The central failing of the average western mind is the reliance on shallow moral intuitions instead of rational and economic interests of the parties. Why? westerners are not able to even envision the taking of losses so that an enemy can take losses, even losses that are less costly than those at home. This is not how the world works. The rest of the world is not so pamperd and privileged that they are afraid of or unwilling to bear costs or suffering for national ends.
