Scott, (all)
–“If you learned WITH 100% CERTAINTY that human life came from an alien spacecraft that intentionally seeded our planet for life, would it change your mind about the validity of your preferred holy book?”– @ScottAdamsSays
I think my preferred option would be “no, it wouldn’t change anything.”
The only substantive problem with religious content consists in the distinction between wisdom literature (idealism in the mind) and testifiable truth (realism in the existental world).
I can ‘science’ christianity into four or five general rules that are the entire purpose of the religion in creating a standard of weights and measures that facilitate human cooperation despite human bias to easy insult of offense. The rest of the canon just consists of parables to instill those for or five general rules into our intution in a host of contexts by appealing to a subset of our intuitions (non-aggression, submission to strategy, manners, morals, ethics, norms, and traditions … and the resulting mindfulness we obtain from the reduction conflcit both real and potential that results).
Cheers
