Well that’s obvious, because while funding monuments requires markets, the temporal incentives of market actors are different from the intergenerational incentives of aristocracy and nobility. In that sense, yest, modern economic states are sort of degenerate.

I think it’s more important to acknowledge the free market existed wherever monuments existed – that’s what made them possible – and to state that its aristocracy (state) and nobility (church) that were superior to democratic states in the production of intergenerational monuments and arts – because as #Hoppe stated, commercial entities are renters of the political order while aristocracy and nobility are the owners of it. So these outcomes are predictable.

We can deprive the democratic state from engaging in these matters, and restore the aristocracy in provision of them relatively easily. I don’t think the market has much to do with high culture, art, and monuments.
