Challenges: (a) practicality (b) substitutablity (c) near impossibility of creating a religion by intent – yet we have stoicism, which is the optimum ‘relgion’ for men, and epicureanism, which is the optimum ‘religion’ for women. Those are personal religions. Civic religion is something our ancestors have succeeded at repeatedly, but it is a religion of the polity and the people not of the supernatural.
