Hansel and Gretel is a true story of the fears of children – and it wasn’t a stepmother but a mother in the original story. Mother was not always the saintly figure we have constructed in the abrahamic religoius narrative.

I had this discussion with someone recently who was unable to even find the two most recent archeological discoveries that demonstrated the degree of infanticide by women. Given that this is a ‘sensitive subject’ I understand why people are unaware of it. But that doesn’t mean all of us are unaware of it – and horrified by it.
