TWO STUDIES.
The American Journal of Human Genetics in 2008, which analyzed 614 individuals from 10 different regions in North Africa (including Arabs and Berbers), found that the total African mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) contribution was 20%.

Another study published in 2017, which focused on the Arab and Berber populations in North Africa, estimated that the African contribution in these populations was around 20% based on mtDNA and Y-chromosome markers.

ISSUE:
(a) most MENA slaves captured from africa were women – the men were castrated.
(b) this skews the data because mitocondrial DNA does not give us the same detail as does Y dna.
