Christ had nothing to do with it. Monogamy is a necessary institution for the production of agrarianism and its evolution into complex political organization. It’s necessary for the trust necessary for the formation of militial warriors (our ancestors). The greeks and the romans were monogamous. In germanic law that we do have there are only two things that bring you capital punishment: cowardice in battle, and adultery: “Tacitus notes that the Germanic tribes were strictly monogamous, and that adultery was severely punished.”
