–“Q: Curt: Do women then even naturally desire children, or are they just a byproduct?”–

Summary
A set of very simple neurological tweaks, in sequence, produce women’s care for children, but much less so their want of children.

Learning
Women who are raised with other children, especially younger children they care for, will tend to desire children. Some portion of women who have not will tend to favor hyperconsumption (selfishness) over child rearing. The reason is simple: women are biased to empathizing in time instead of male systematizing over time. ANd all brains like being stimulated by whatever means they are organized to recieve stimulation.

Explanation
The correct answer as far as we know, is that women desire sex, not children. Once they have children the hormones generally but not always do their job. Once the hormones do the job the gratification of attention and empathic exercise does it’s job. Once they develop skill at using attention and empathic exercise they discover they have real agency in the world (which is usually more of a male disposition). Once that is habituated most women find the stimulation of extending their nervous system over those of their children something akin to addictive. And that’s why they hold onto it even after children are gone – and some mothers are even a problem because of it. Meanwhile Kin selection and kin preference create a priority in both sexes – though oddly both men and women are more protective of children than they are of one another.

Conclusion
So nature brought about a sequence of incentives that together. In other words, sex drive, want of attention, empathizing and agency for stimulation take care of the process of ensuring our survival.
Nature uses simple tools. It’s all it can use.

Cheers
