Personal testimony, as someone wh has been very and often seriously ill for a long period, I can’t say that my intelligence changed, but I can say that the time I could make use of it changed dramatically with health, and more so with fitness.

As far as I can tell, as a general rule of thumb, if you are fit you can demonstrate your full intelligence much more of the TIME – and you’ll be happier too. This is the best reason to stay fit. It tunes your brain too.

And secondly, if you do that consistently you will find your IQ rises about one point every three years because of the natural result of crystalized intelligence (learned) even if your fluid intelligencde (biological) is difficult if not impossible to change.

In other words, yeah. You will find your DEMONSTRATED intelligence increases if you are fit.

Now the second most useful increase in demonstrated intelligence is simply what we call general knowledge, and by and large that comes from reading, and by that I mean reading material that challenges you to incrementally (slowly) build your knowledge in one or more domains.

And finally, if we look at people’s performance over time – and there is some variation not only between individuals but groups – you can’t gain a standard deviation. What you can do is achieve performance of about half that if you work at it.

That’s the most optimistic picture I can provide.
