It saved western knowldge because of the christian destruction of european civilization – a destruction islam would amplify destroying seven great civilizations of the ancient world reducing people to ignorance, superstition, dysgenia and decline. By 1000ad islam turned to authoritaian fendamentalism, causing flight of scholars to europe, translation by italians and by 1200 the western recovery that we amplified with literacy.
