RE: Academic Job Security?

I dunno. Your security is in fact dicated by both the subject matter of your inquiry, the department you’re in, and the admnistration, all of which, except for econ compsci and physics are highly politicized – with the best universities the most politicized. (The top law schools teach sedition for goodness sake, not responsibility for the polity and law).
I couldn’t put a dissertation committee together for my cross disciplinary work, nor could I take as long as I have with my efforts, nor if I published would I be able to maintain employment. And I work largely in epistemology, economics, and law, and particularly in baiting into hazard, fraud, deception, lying, and denial – and more specifically in sex, political, and civilizational differences in lying. And the results are far more unpleasant for democratic polities than Darwin was for the Church.
So what’s important is very difficult to pursue in the academy. In fact, you are safest pursuing what is unimportant, and in many cases what is false, than what is both important and true.
