No, under the germanic law. The king cannot ask such a thing as killing your own family. The reason for the attempt at the divine right of kings was precisely because they were limited by the traditional common law of the germanic, european, and west indo european people, made necessary by european geography that limited the capacity to police territory – the inverse of which was due to the fertile crescent, indus-india, and chinese river systems. In germanic law, as in all european law up until rome imported it from the east, capital punishment was reserved for adultery(rape) and cowardice in battle. All other crimes required restitution. (Of course, religous sacrifices helped them circumvent this law now and then.) As Rome learned, marines (water travel) can cover far more geography faster and cheaply than footsoldiers over land. 😉
