Microsoft was my primary customer for twenty years, even though I was an employee only for a short time before I quit that horrific political dysfunctional bureaucracy. 😉
One of my acts of personal catharsis was to switch entirely over to mac (unix) because it’s simply better software all around. ANd if microsoft hadn’t rescued apple at one point and made this damned agreement, apple would gut the one tech that’s keeping microsoft around: excel. Because there is no reason for a two dimensional spreadsheet any longer.
And Mac tech, especially the cpu, is soooo superior, that given both the superior shell and UI, superior operating system, and superior tech, at absurdly low energy costs, if they invested in an attack on the office suite, particularly through an n-dimensional excel, would make the corporate choice hard. (it’s not worth it given the money is all made from the iphone). But you can guarranteed that when the iPhone takes a hit (no sight of it until a new tech is out, which they are trying to produce already) that Apple will eventually go after that windows tech. And I mean, it’s still Digitial Equpment architecture under there. And all they’ve done is make it worse over time.
Once apple has the incentive to produce a desktop capable of carrying a video card stack that allows us to play 3d games on it (they’re in the process), in adition to it’s AI-onCPU tech, we will get the choice we want.
Personally I’d start that war now, but I don’t have insight into apple’s management’s thinking any longer and havent’ since about 2009.
