Yes. I gave up Chess Club in 8th grade when I realized it really was just how much you played, and yielded no external returns. So in effect, chess, as a puzzle, not a problem, was an unprofitable status-seeking time sink. It’s one of the reasons I so rigidly followed “Seek to solve problems, not puzzles” and “Seek to work from problems to books, not books to problems”.
There is no game comparable to business, politics, or war. 😉
