Simple answer, is that ‘the federation is fine but the powers of the central government to determine the cultural policy of the states is behind the scope of its ability here in the states, just as it is in the failing experiment in Europe.

The progression of civilization like that of the individual is pervasive conflict (infancy), city-states (childhood), empires (teens), and federations of independent nation states (adults).

Time for a government of grownups.
There is to much advantage to territorial integrity of north american – avoiding the conflict of the ‘world island’ of eurasia.

But within that north american continent we can devolve the federal government back to its original designs as a variation on the holy roman empire of 1000 years, with many small states and a weak central government, that gives freedom of culture to each state, and only resolves conflicts between states.
