Talking past you. Think preference instead of bias. In other words we can learn to undertand our preference (bias) in relation to the absence of bias, thus allowing us to understand our preferences vs those of others. In other words a standard of weights and measures allows commensurability without the confusion of conflation and inflation we use to attribute more to (justify) our preference (bias). Thus we can both apprecite our preferences, those of others, those of others in time and place, and still judge them all objectively superior or inferior. Though it is true that just as there are limits to calculation (math), to logic (argument), reason (decision), there are limits to aesthetic understanding. So we can only teach each to the limits of his or her ability. Hence my previous comment on denographic composition. In fact the rate of collapse of ability is frighteningly rapid, and masked by the commensurability provided by language and norms. Because we only need cooperate within the limits of one another’s abilities – which is the problem with mass education, universal enfranchisement, and democratic government.. that we experience today.
