Pretty hard to look at the greeks without grasping that they’re appealing to correspondence rather than authority. And it’s pretty hard to make a claim to authority when the entire difference between western and the rest of the civilizations ins the western prohibition on discretionary authority limiting them to responsibility for decision making.
So we have empiricism until the Christian destruction of the ancient world, from 100-400ad, and the gradual restoration of classical thought from 1200ad onward in response to the restoration of classical thought via Italy then up to britain.
