In my experience, across all fields, math places the highest burden on working (hierarchical recursive) memory. While I can follow the thoughts of Noam Chomsky (narrative) and Ed Witten (mathematics), I cannot perform the same mental tasks with anything like the ease they do. The other difference, is that I was raised with the ethic of bias in favor of problems and against puzzles, with the result being cognitive science, epistemology, logic, and linguistics, economics, and law: problems, not puzzles.
