Well, yes, but you are talking about early to late industrial vs subsistence agrarian people who have little to no state apparatus.

I know Indian nationalists hate it when we say this but India wasn’t on much of a trajectory it was a backward place with divisive and corrupt aristocracy that preyed on the people on a scale the europeans never imagined was possible. So was the occupation bad? Yes. But is India better off like all colonies are better off than non-colonies? Yes. All colonies are better off than non. that’s just a fact. (Amerindians not so much…..)
